Remember Me If You Can

The best start-up automakers and their creations that you want to buy.

Gone are the days when it was possible to identify a car brand by a single cursory glance. And it's not just about globalization and unification. New car brands are breeding like rabbits. Only in the last five years, a dozen new car companies were created. Are all of them familiar to you?

NIO

China-based NextEV, which owns the NIO brand, is doing much better: the company takes part in the Formula-E championship, and the NIO EP9 hypercar is the fastest EV that has ever been driven on the North loop at the Nurburgring. It takes the EP9 only 7 minutes and 5 seconds to complete the most dangerous route in the world.

Production of nanoFlowcell’s series cars was planned to start at the end of last year, but we have only a few spectacular concept cars and optimistic statements today. The latest concept – the 761-hp Quant 48Volt with four electric motors – was presented at the expo in Geneva this year. A drive range of the electric vehicle is about 1,000 km.

nano Flowcell

Although the private car company nanoFlowcell was founded in 2013, its “ears” stick out from 2009, when the Swedish Koenigsegg presented the Quant concept in Geneva. Well, the first car of the company from Liechtenstein was shown during the same Geneva Motor Show 5 years later and it immediately became the most discussed exhibit. This is largely due to the innovative technology of flow-through electrolyte batteries, which do not require recharging.

Only six EP9s will be released and all of them will go to the investors and founders of NextEV founded in 2014. So, you don't have to wait for it to be released, except to periodically check car sales sites and auctions. Each hypercar, with a power output of about 1,360 hp and a maximum speed of 313 km/h, will cost about $1.2 million.

Faraday Future

Faraday Future is now called the main competitor of Tesla. The company's headquarters are also located in California, and its production cars are fast, autopilotable and fully electrified. Faraday Future has been operating since April 2014 and unites 1,400 first-class specialists. The main investor of the project is the Chinese company Leco. By the way, the company participates in the Formula-e championship, like NextEV.

The first running copy of the Faraday Future FF91, which should be mass-produced by 2018, was shown to viewers at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year. In 36 hours, the company received more than 64,000 pre-orders for this SUV, which accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.

DS Automobiles

In 2009, Citroen created the premium DS sub-brand, which produces the most luxurious and most avant-garde cars. But in 2014, DS was granted complete freedom within the PSA Peugeot Citroen. The brand’s current models lost the “double chevrons” and new cars were released.

The first fully self-driving car for the European market was the DS7 Crossback introduced in early March in Geneva. It is definitely worth waiting: among the bright features of the new product are LED headlights and taillights, a retractable watch on the dashboard, and a “smart” adaptive suspension that receives information about bumps in front of the car right from the camera.

Eadon Green

Eadon Green debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show as a bolt from the blue. No wonder, the company was registered only at the end of last year, although the idea of its creation was being hatched by Felix Eaton (the founder) since 2013. The new company's first car, which will compete with the Morgan, was shown in Geneva this month. In general, one-day companies often make their debut in Geneva, you can't remember everything, but Eadon Green with its Black Cuillin inspires cautious optimism.

The company's first car is the Black Cuillin named after a mountain range on the Scottish island of Skye. The source of inspiration for it was the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 of the mid-30s. There is no exact data on how long and how much the Black Cuillin can travel. It is only known that it is driven by a six-liter V12, which can accelerate the car to 270 km/h.

Lynx & Co

Geely’s premium brand was established in 2016 and is positioned as an intermediary between Geely and Volvo cars, which can attract the attention of a young and creative audience. The philosophy of Lynch & Co is non-standard: the car is considered as a file that can be changed to your liking and shared with friends (yes, we are speaking about car sharing).

The company's first car will be the 01 SUV, which should start selling this year. An infotainment system of this model has an open API, which should encourage the development of various applications. Three — and four-cylinder engines will be used as powertrains, and a hybrid version will also be available.

Jannarelly

In recent years, we have seen the birth of several automobile companies from the UAE. Jannarely appeared in 2015, and the first cars should go on sale this year. Given how much money is invested in such projects in the Emirates, there is no doubt at least in small-scale production. The company currently has two models: the Design-1 Roadster and the Design-1 Coupe.

Both versions of the Design-1 are equipped with a 304-hp V6 engine manufactured by Nissan and a 6-speed gearbox. The cars accelerate to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and reach a tops speed of more than 220 km/h. The coupe will probably be most popular: it has a roof and the only door to access the interior, namely a half-dome of windscreen and roof that leans forward.

W Motors

W Motors debuted in Dubai in July 2012. Now, every car enthusiast knows about its supercars. Ralph Debbas set a goal to create the first supercar company in the Middle East and he more than succeeded. All seven Lykan Hypersport supercars were instantly sold out.

The company is now focused on producing its second supercar, the Fenyr Supersport. Like the Lycan, the car is equipped with a 4-liter opposed six-cylinder engine designed by RUF Automotive (it is clearly based on the Porsche engine). The Fenyr reaches a top speed of 400 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.

Fisker Inc

Let us immediately clarify that we are speaking about Henrik Fisker’s new company, which was founded in 2016 and is called Fisker Inc. And it should not be confused with Fisker Automotive, which produced the Karma. So far, Fisker Inc has only one concept, namely the EMotion, which was introduced in December last year. A pre-production concept should appear this year. According to Fisker, it will travel up to 640 km on a single charge.

Karma Automotive

After Fisker lost his first company, they created a new one based on it – Karma Automotive, which has been in existence since 2015. The choice of models from the company is meager – it offers Fisker’s old Karma, which was made longer-range and more reliable. The name of the familiar stylish sedan is now the Karma Rivero.
