The Porsche Taycan Is Officially Presented

Porsche has unveiled its first electric sports car today. The premiere took place simultaneously on three continents — Toronto (North America), Berlin (Europe) and Fuzhou (Asia). The four-door sports sedan combines high performance of a sports car with everyday usability of a road car and advanced technology.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo are the first models in the line-up. These are Porsche’s most powerful production models. A less powerful variant of the Taycan will be released later. Subsequently, body modifications will also begin to appear, the first of which will be the Taycan Cross Turismo. It will be presented at the end of next year.

The flagship Taycan Turbo S can produce up to 560 kW (761 hp) and 1050 Nm in combination with Launch Control. The Taycan Turbo can offer 500 kW (680 HP) in turn. A 0-100 km/h time of the Taycan Turbo S is 2.8 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo completes this sprint in 3.2 seconds. A drive range of the Turbo S and Turbo is up to 412 km and 450 km (WLTP), respectively. The top speed of both AWD models is 260 km/h.

The Turbo S and Turbo each have two efficient electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle, thus making the cars all-wheel drive.

The Porsche Taycan is the first production car with a system voltage of 800V, instead of the traditional 400V. This means for Taycan drivers that the battery can be recharged using direct current from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 100 km (WLTP) in over 5 minutes. The charging time from 5-80% takes about 23 minutes. The capacity of the Performance Battery Plus is 93.4 kwhr. It is possible to charge Taycan cars with up to 11 kwhr of AC at home.

The potential recuperation power of up to 265 kwhr is significantly higher than that of competitors. Various profiles of driving modes make it possible to conveniently use all the functions of the electric car. Four driving modes are available: «Range», «Normal», «Sport» and «Sport Plus». In addition, some systems can be configured individually.

The cockpit signals the beginning of a new era. The aerodynamic body with recognizable shapes has a minimalistic design and advanced headlights. Inside, Taycan is also distinguished by minimalism and technocracy. The curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the innovative dashboard. This places an absolute emphasis on the driver axis. A 10.9” central infotainment display and an additional passenger display are combined into an integrated black panel. In addition to touch control, you can also use the voice control functions, which responds to the phrase «Hey Porsche».

The Porsche Taycan will not feature a fully leather interior for the first time. All interior details are made of innovative recycled materials. The electric car has two luggage compartments: the front compartment has a capacity of 81 liters and the rear – 336 liters.

Porsche uses electronically controlled chassis. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyzes and synchronizes all chassis systems in real time. The innovative systems include adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology to adjust stiffness every second. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) allows the car to stay stable during maneuvers.

According to preliminary information, the Porsche Taycan will cost from $90-130 thousand in Germany. Customers will start receiving the first cars at the beginning of next year. The new model will debut at the International Motor Show Germany in Frankfurt.
