Another Defender: Ineos Introduces the Grenadier SUV

Ineos, the largest British manufacturer of chemicals, has repeatedly stated its desire to produce an SUV that will be similar to the iconic Land Rover Defender.

Ineos CEO Jim Ratcliffe was even in talks with Land Rover to sell an old SUV patent. Having been refused, Radcliffe did not become upset and organized his own automobile production. The company's first model will be the Grenadier SUV.

The visual similarity between the Grenadier and original Defender is obvious. The new model has received a similar utilitarian design with a square profile. The main highlights are a rear bumper, large round headlights and taillights, powerful front fenders, a spare wheel and a small ladder for access to the roof.

Due to the fact that the company has no experience in car development and production, it has asked for help a number of specialized firms, which will bring the project to the production stage. In particular, the Ineos Grenadier will get an engine from BMW. Presumably, it will be a 3.0-liter turbo engine connected to an eight-speed ZF transmission. Ineos is based on a chassis developed by Magna Steyr, which is made of steel and has solid axles.

The model is planned to be released in the second quarter of 2021, but nothing is known about the start of production yet.
