The Audi A3 Sedan Is Shown

A couple of months after the premiere of the hatchback, Audi has presented the A3 Sedan.

After the recent, albeit online, premiere of the new-gen Audi A3 Sportback, it is time to release a sedan variant. The model is built on the MQB platform. Its wheelbase is exactly the same as that of the hatchback and latest generation – 2636 mm.

However, the other dimensions have significantly increased. The sedan has grown in length by 37 mm — to 4495 mm, in width by 20 mm — to 1816 mm, and in height by 9 mm – to 1425 mm. If you compare the sedan with the hatchback, the first one will be longer by 15 cm.

Compared to the previous generation, the design has significantly changed despite the fact that this is just the second sedan in the A3’s history. According to Audi, the company was inspired by Lamborghini. The model has received an even more faceted design with a pronounced radiator grille and side air intakes. Attention is also drawn to the inflated wheel arches and fenders. At any angle and lighting, the relief of the sides is very clearly visible; the car seems to flex its muscles.

The Audi A3 Sedan will debut with a TFSI petrol engine and a TDI diesel engine. Both have 150 hp. The 1.5-liter petrol unit can be equipped with a 48v battery for so-called mild hybrids, which provides savings of up to 0.4 liters for every 100 km of driving. The diesel one, in turn, has a large torque (360 Nm against 250 Nm of the petrol engine) and also good fuel efficiency. In addition to the powertrains, there will be a new transmission: the petrol variant will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed S-tronic with the shift by wire system and the diesel variant will have only the S-tronic.

It is interesting that the car’s front suspension is equipped with MacPherson struts, but the type of a rear suspension will depend on the power of an engine. If it is up to 150 hp, then a semi-independent suspension will be equipped. But if it is over 150 hp, there will be a multi-link one. Audi also promises to release an all-wheel drive modification, as well as more powerful engines (engines of the RS3 sedan, that can still be bought, develop 400 hp) and a full-fledged hybrid powertrain in the near future.

The interior of the new Audi A3 sedan resembles that of the hatchback but was designed from scratch. The new style has nothing in common with its predecessor. The torpedo style car here is focused on the driver: a small selector instead of the gearbox lever, more displays, and a 10.25" digital dashboard. You can also order a more advanced 12.3" Audi plus fascia at extra cost.

The MMI system occupies the whole center of the dashboard, which lost the air deflectors above. It looks like a controversial decision. But the system boasts high performance, advanced navigation system, Wi-Fi and Car-to-X (cars can communicate with each other by exchanging information). myAudi App will allow you to remotely control the car – open/close Windows, start the engine.

The Audi model A3 Sedan should be released in Europe this summer.
