The BMW X7 Pickup is a Reality but Unattainable

A luxury SUV with an open body exists; you can see it in the BMW Welt Museum.

BMW has officially stated that it does not plan to produce a pickup truck. However, the company allowed the interns to turn the most luxurious of their SUVs – the X7- into a pickup truck.

The company’s team of young specialists has been working on the car’s design for 10 months. It was based on the X7 xDrive40i in BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue Metallic. The car body gained 10 cm in length but became 200 kg lighter than the SUV, thanks to the use of carbon fiber and an «empty» rear part.

The pickup can be seen at the BMW Welt Museum in Bavaria, near the company's HQs. It has a height-adjustable air suspension with two positions that make loading easier. The interior can comfortably accommodate up to five people.

The trunk is decorated with teak wood; its length is 140 cm with a closed side and 200 cm with an open side. To demonstrate the capacity of the body, a BMW F 850 GS bike was placed in it.
