Car Production in Germany Has Hit the Lowest Reading for 22 Years

According to the latest data, German passenger car production declined in 2019. Moreover, it has decreased to the level that it was 22 years ago.

According to DW, German automakers produced 4.7 million passenger cars in 2019, which is 9% less than the previous year.

This is the worst indicator since 1997. The corresponding data was published by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

Last year’s export of German cars also declined. About 3.5 million cars were sold outside of Germany, which is 13% less than in 2018. The VDA explains the reduction in production and exports by weakening of demand on the international market.

However, the statistics say that the number of new car registrations increased by 5% and reached 3.6 million in Germany in 2019. Of these, almost 1.1 million registrations are for passenger cars of foreign manufacturers. In this segment, growth was also 5%.

In other words, it turns out that some Germans are not loyal enough to their brands. This is probably due to the gradual and increasingly severe decline in the reliability of German cars, which has been observed over the past two decades.
