According to GM Vice President for Global Product Tim Herrick Chevrolet plans to release the “heavy” Suburban of the current generation especially for those who regularly use their SUV to tow heavy trailers or transport cargo. According to the company's tradition, this SUV will receive the HD version. Similar to the Silverado, the Heavy Duty variant will obviously receive a reinforced frame and upgraded suspension, taking into account an increased load capacity and traction capabilities.

In addition, the Suburban HD should get a new engine. The last-generation SUV was equipped with a 6.0-liter 365-hp V8 petrol engine. A powertrain for the new model is likely to be that of the Silverado Heavy Duty: it is equipped with a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax diesel engine with a power output of 451 hp and 1,234 Nm. Another option may be a 6.6-liter 406-hp petrol V8. The Suburban Heavy Duty will debut in 2021.
