Compact Porsches to Receive 6-Cylinder Engines

Following the extreme modifications of the Porsche 718 Spyder and the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, a less “hot” version of the GTS 4.0 has been announced.

The main modifications of the latest Porsche 718 Cayman and Porsche 718 Boxster are transferred to 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engines, but the company does not abandon naturally aspirated units and make them a characteristic feature of flagship models. First, 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engines came out with the Porsche 718 Spyder and the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, and now the same engine has been installed on the new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.

The key difference is a power output: if the engine of the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 produces 420 hp, then the engine for the GTS 4.0 versions is derated to 400 hp. As for the transmission, there are no changes. The 6-cylinder engine comes only with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The both models accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 293 km/h, which is slower than the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4. An adaptive performance suspension with a 20 mm lower ground clearance already comes standard. You can order an even more extreme version with a ground clearance reduced by additional 10 mm for an extra charge.

The equipment includes a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle, a Sport Chrono package with support for the Porsche Track Precision App, reinforced brakes with red calipers, a performance exhaust system, and so on. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available as an option.

You can visually distinguish the GTS 4.0 versions from the “regular” 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster by black 20-inch wheels and black inserts in the front bumper, an upgraded rear bumper with the same black accents, and opaque headlights & taillights.

The interior of the new sports cars is finished in black Alcantara. Decorative panels are made of carbon fiber, and some elements (tachometer dial, upholstery stitching, and seat belts) can be made in contrasting red or gray shades if necessary.
