The Electric Mercedes Sprinter Goes Into Production

Mercedes-Benz Vans has launched a long-awaited model - the electric Sprinter. In this regard, the final characteristics of the model have been revealed.

Mercedes-Benz introduced the current generation of the Sprinter in early 2018. The model received not only internal combustion engines but also an electric drive for the first time in history. The basic configurations were put on the conveyor in 2018. However, the eSprinter reached the production halls only in December 2019.

The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is designed for a wide range of urban transport tasks. Therefore, it is available only in one version – a van with a high roof, which weighs 3500 kg. The maximum loading volume is the same as of the non-electric Sprinter — 10.5 cu m. The eSprinter also features two technical configurations with difference in batteries.

The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter uses a single 85 kW electric engine with a torque of 295 Nm, which transmits thrust to the front axle. The standard battery is 55 kwhr, which is enough to cover a distance of 168 km. The second battery is 35 kwhr; its drive range is 115 km. In the first case, the load capacity is 891 kg, but in the second, it is increased to 1045 kg.

Using the 7.4 kW on-board charger, the batteries can be fully charged in about 6 hours in the both versions. There is also a fast charging function that allows you to charge the battery up to 80% in 30 minutes. Depending on the customer's wishes, the maximum speed of the eSprinter is set at 80, 100 or 120 km/h.

Finally, there are three driving modes available in the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter: «E+», «E» and «C» (from the most economical mode to the most productive one), as well as four energy recovery modes: from «D -», «D», «D +» to «D ++» (for example, using «D-» you can control acceleration and deceleration with only one pedal).

Sales will start next year.
