Elon Musk Made Fun of the Panic Over the Coronavirus and Lost $5.5 Billion

Elon Musk's lost 18% of his fortune due to the coronavirus.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is quite careless about the coronavirus, which has spread over almost all continents. A few days ago, Musk called the COVID-19 panic “dumb”, since, according to him, the virus is not included in the list of major threats to human life. Today, Tesla CEO said that he was not going to stop working and called on the company's employees to do the same.

Despite Musk’s personal beliefs about the pandemic, he still faced an impact on his fortune. In particular, due to the unstable situation in the market and the collapse of oil prices, the cost of Tesla’s shares fell by 22%, to $546 per unit. This led to decrease in Elon Musk's fortune by 18%, which is the numerical equivalent of $5.5 billion.

By the way, not only Elon Musk, but also other “strong men of this world" suffered from the market decline. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault lost the most — $14 billion. Also among the billionaires who lost huge amounts were: Zara CEO Amancio Ortega (lost $12.8 billion) and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (lost $6.4 billion).
