Elon Musk Postpones the Release of the Tesla Roadster: Reasons and Approximate Release Dates

Musk first introduced the Tesla Roadster back in 2017. Then he said that the car will be released in 2020.

However, a lot of things have changed since then and it seems that Elon Musk has changed his mind. While the coveted Roadster, designed to be the best of its kind, is hiding in the workshops of Gigafactory, other manufacturers have already approached the crazy accleration figures of 1.9 seconds to the first hundred.

However, according to Musk, only the standard version acquires a 0-100 km/h time of 1.9 seconds and a 620-mile drive range. It is hard to imagine what a crazy genius has in store for a more powerful version of the Roadster.«Everyone who waited will not regret it,» says Musk.

To study this hypercar in more detail, the world community needs to wait a couple of years, until 2022, or maybe more. Elon named such dates in his latest interview, answering the question of what will be released sooner, the Roadster or the Cybertruck.

Roadster is kind of like dessert. We gotta get the meat and potatoes and greens and stuff,

Musk said.

Besides, he also noted a number of things that Tesla plans to implement before the Roadster is released. The list looks like this:

  • Increasing production of the Model Y
  • Gigafactory Berlin construction
  • Gigafactory Shanghai extension
  • Tesla Semi goes into production
  • Tesla Cybertruck goes into production

It is expected that some of these milestones will not be reached until the end of 2021, which means that the new Tesla Roadster may not be available until 2022.
