The purpose of the in-cabin has been a mystery since the Model 3's release.

Now this mystery has already been solved. One of the latest software updates indicates that the camera is used for autopilot and is connected with the Tesla Network. Owners have begun to put forward various theories, e.g. the company will track the driver's actions while the autopilot is running.

However, Elon Musk himself responded “correct” to a tweet with another theory. It turned out that the camera will be used in the Robotaxi service. The in-cabin camera will record cases of vandalism in the car. Musk also spoke about another feature of the camera. It will be able to record the driver’s and passengers’ actions when Tesla’s Caraoke is activated.
