Fiat Combines Two Popular Models Into One

Fiat has decided to review its model range and exclude those cars that have long been in zero demand. These models included the compact 500x and the 500L SUV, sales of which declined significantly after the launch of the new generation Fiat 500.

According Fiat CEO Olivier Francois, a completely new model called the Fiat 500XL will take the vacant place. This will be a large SUV with a high ground clearance, a 4400-mm length and a 2650-mm wheelbase.

Its powertrain is supposed to consist of a 1.0-liter turbo engine, which is supplemented by a 12-volt starter generator. Hybrid and all-electric versions will also be available.

The CEO could not name a release date of the new model, since it is still more about plans than about real developments. He only clarified that the final decision will be made before the end of this year, when the company will probably provide more precise information about the release of the Fiat 500XL.

It is worth noting that only 36,400 Fiat 500Ls were sold in Europe in 2019. 5,800 cars found their owners in the period of two months this year. In March, sales of the SUV fell to 351 vehicles.
