The Escape, also known as the Kuga, is based on the platform of the Focus, which also has an ST modification. However, the top-end hatchback and the Fiesta ST have not been available in the US for some time. The company decided to remove them from sale in North America, as they were inferior in sales to crossovers. However, SUV segment customers also appreciate high-performance cars. So, Ford may release another upgraded crossover in the future. It may be the Escape ST, which is expected to be based on the Focus ST.

According to CarsGuide, this was told by James Hughes, the chief engineer of the Escape, who also noted that the possibility of producing another top-end ST crossover would be “a fantastic idea”. Ford currently has two such models: the Edge ST with a 2.7-liter 340-hp V6 Biturbo engine and the larger Ford Explorer ST with a 3.0-liter 406-hp V6 Biturbo engine borrowed from the discontinued Lincoln Continental, which has a top speed of 230 km/h.
