Goodyear’s Tires Are Taught to Grow Treads

Goodyear has introduced a concept tire called ‘ReCharge’, which received a renewable tread.

Tires are an important element of the car, which is responsible for its driveability on the road, as well as for comfort and safety of movement. Due to the fact that tires are in direct contact with roadbed, they are subject to wear. The worse a road is, the faster treads wear and the more often you have to change tires.

Goodyear, which specializes in the production of tires, regularly updates its product range, offering quite innovative solutions. This time, the company has introduced a concept tire called ‘ReCharge’, which received a renewable tread. The regeneration process takes place thanks to a special capsule with a biodegradable liquid material, which is built into the tire structure. This material enters the center of the concept tire over usage and restores it from the inside, thereby regenerating a tread and providing necessary grip on the roadbed.

The company has developed several types of such capsules, which are filled with various mixtures. Artificial Intelligence creates a car profile that takes into account the driver's preferences. Based on the data obtained, a composition of the mixture is formed, which will also adapt to road conditions and climate. This solution allows extending a life cycle of tires by 20-30%.

As for the design, the ‘ReCharge’ concept tire looks quite futuristic. It has a high narrow shape with a light frame. In addition, it is based on a design that controls pressure, so drivers can forget about flat tires.
