Hummer’s new electric pickup is planned to be presented at the upcoming NFL finals.

As it became known to ABOUTCARS, General Motors intends to resume production of Hummer cars. The brand’s return is planned to coincide with one of the most significant sporting events in the United States — the 2020 Super Bowl, which will be held in Miami on February 2.

According to Bloomberg, the new model of the revived brand will be a full-size electric pickup truck, which will be sold as the Hummer by GMC. First commercial copies will go on sale in the United States in 2021. One of the factors that influenced the favourable decision to launch the new model was the unprecedented excitement around the Tesla Cybertruck.

Sources in The Wall Street Journal claim that the reborn Hummer will be presented by American basketball superstar James LeBron. A promotional video will be broadcast during the Super Bowl.

GM plans to start production of a new lineup of electric pickup trucks and premium SUVs at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. It should be reminded that the conglomerate bought the rights to the Hummer brand from AM General in 1999, and Hummer’s latest cars were manufactured in 2010.

The new pickup will be sold through GM dealerships, as it is unsuitable to create a separate chain for financial reasons. Once, Daimler AG followed suit, transforming the Maybach luxury brand into Mercedes-Maybach.
