Hyundai Launches Kona Electric Production in Europe

Demand for Hyundai’s electric SUV is higher than the company’s marketers planned.

The brand’s factory in South Korea can no longer cope with it, so it is decided to open a production line in the Czech Republic. To meet the ever-growing demand for electric vehicles in Europe, Hyundai Motor has decided to launch production of the Kona Electric at its factory in Nošovice, Czech Republic. This will significantly reduce delivery time of the model to customers in Europe. The production is scheduled to start in March 2020.

The decision to launch the production of the Kona Electric in the Czech Republic is dictated by the growing demand for electric vehicles in Europe every year. Since the start of sales in 2018, the number of orders has exceeded all the company's expectations, and the existing production capacity (currently, the production of the Kona Electric is established at the South Korean Hyundai factory in Ulsan) is not designed for such a large demand.

We constantly listen to the opinions and wishes of our customers, as evidenced by our decision to launch production of the Kona Electric at the Hyundai factory in the Czech Republic. As more and more buyers think about the impact they will have on the environment when choosing a car, we see great potential for delivering electric vehicles to the European market. This step will strengthen our position as a leader in future mobility

said Hyundai Motor Europe CEO Dong Woo Choi.

The company plans to deliver more than 80,000 electric vehicles to the European market this year, including models such as the Kona Electric, the IONIQ Electric and the NEXO. This will allow Hyundai Motor to become the largest supplier of eco-friendly passenger transport in Europe in 2020.
