Jaguar F-Pace Seriously Updated: All Details

The off-road Jaguar has received a new set of engines and a completely different interior.

The Jaguar F-Pace was the first SUV of the English brand. It was released in 2016, and now it's time for an update. The upgraded model was shown during an online presentation from the new Jaguar design center in Gaydon.

However, the project's chief engineer, Colin Kirkpatrick, never tires of saying that this is more than just a planned facelift. It's hard to disagree with him: in addition to a slightly refreshed designed, the SUV has received a completely new interior with a different, more richly decorated fascia and a modern Pivi Pro infotainment system. It is also worth noting that there is a new line of powertrains, which includes only inline engines of the unified Ingenium family from now on: petrol and diesel, four- and six-cylinder.

Changes in design are small, although they are more serious than they seem at first glance: the list of new parts includes not only plastic mounted components (bumpers and headlights) but also stamped external panels — the hood and tailgate.

During the restyling, the British corrected the main clumsiness of the original design: a clearly distinguishable joint between the hood and the front bumper. The updated car has a hood that descends to the very edge of the front, and the hood itself has acquired a more pronounced stamping in the center.

The radiator grille and air intakes on the bumper have a slightly different size and pattern. The headlights have not only become a centimeter narrower but have also received new LEDs: the matrix headlights and running lights are made in the form of a double letter “J”.

At the back, there is a tailgate with a trapezoidal niche for a license plate and more concise taillights with different graphics. A new rear bumper has received fake exhaust pipes (however, top-end versions have the real ones).

Inside, the updated F-Pace leaves no possibility to confuse it with the original model. The fascia is completely new, horizontal shaping resembles the current Range Rover models, and its two-tone finish not only looks more elegant but also visually adds space: the top of the panel is covered with black leather, the bottom — in the color of the seats.

An automatic transmission rotary shifter, already familiar to Jaguars, is replaced with a more conventional selector: a small gear lever is mounted on an inclined center console. The shifter was saved but for other functions. It controls driving modes and is placed next to the selector.

An 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system framed by a thin magnesium frame has become a new data center. A new set of on-board electronics debuted on the Land Rover Defender was first installed in the Jaguar I-Pace EV. The new infotainment system migrated to the F-Pace along with a completely redesigned electronic architecture.

The main features of the Pivi Pro system are two Qualcomm Snapdragon 820Am processors, the real-time BlackBerry QNX OS, and a pair of independent modems that allow you to combine listening to music from streaming services and downloading software updates. This system is included in the standard equipment of the F-Pace SUV in most configurations.

The interface of the Pivi Pro system is characterized by wide customization options and at the same time simplicity: 90% of functions are available within two taps from the home screen. Besides, it comes with a 12.3-inch digital cockpit and a color projection display.

The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Baidu Life. Spotify is also pre-installed. You can connect two smartphones via Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi can be distributed to up to 8 devices.

The range of powertrains has been completely revised: petrol and diesel V6 engines have been replaced by 3.0-liter Ingenium inline ones unified with four-cylinder unit. In addition, there is a rechargeable hybrid.

2.0-liter diesel I4 engines (163 hp, 180 hp or 240 hp) now only produce 163 hp or 204 hp after the upgrade. A petrol I4 is now available only in the basic 250-hp version.

But now there is a powerful hybrid F-Pace P400e with the ability to recharge: it has a 2.0-liter 300-hp turbo engine that comes with a 143-hp electric motor built into the gearbox and a 17.1-kWh lithium-ion battery hidden under the trunk floor. The powertrain with a combined output of 404 hp demonstrates impressive dynamics: a 0-100 km/h time is 5.3 seconds. The hybrid can travel up to 53 km without turning on a petrol engine.

Six-cylinder engines are already familiar from Land Rover and Range Rover cars. A 3.0-liter biturbo diesel unit develops 300 hp and accelerates the SUV to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. A biturbo petrol I6 with an electric supercharger will be available in 3400-hp or 400-hp versions.

Cars for the European market will feature diesel engines and a 3.0-liter petrol unit equipped with a mild hybrid system, meaning a powertrain is assisted by a belt starter-generator, which is normally responsible for the start-stop system, at low speeds and high load.
