Kia Announces a Rival to the Porsche Taycan

According to the manufacturer, the new product will be distinguished by “incredible performance”.

In 2021, Kia's model line will feature a new electric SUV based on the 2019 Imagine concept.

The model, known as the Kia CV, will take the top step of the brand's electric line-up. The novelty will be built on the new E-GMP, Hyundai’s platform. It was developed with the help of specialists from Croatia-based Rimac.

Kia confirms that a drive range of the SUV will be about 300 miles, and a battery charging time is less than 20 minutes. The E-GMP is equipped with the same 800-volt technology as the Porsche Taycan, and will work with IONITY’s 350-kW fast charging network.

The top-end configuration of the Kia CV will be able to challenge the Taycan in terms of dynamic characteristics. A 0-100 km/h time of such an SUV will be less than 3 seconds. Full specifications about the future production model are kept in secret.

According to AutoExpress, the production Kia CV will be a C-segment SUV with a stylized interpretation of the company's «tiger nose» grille and a sharp fastback-style rear end.

Over the next five years, Kia plans to increase its range of electric vehicles from two to eleven and its share of the global electric vehicle market share (excluding China) to 6.6%. By this time, the brand’s sales of electric cars on the world market should be 25%.
