Mercedes Abandons Two S-Class Models

Mercedes has officially confirmed plans to complete mass production of the S-Class Coupe and Convertible.

Serial production of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Convertible will end in 2021, although insiders previously claimed that the last two-door models will be released in August 2020. Moreover, the company plans to abandon not only standard variants but also AMG modifications.

According to the official website, the only update for the 2021 S-Class will be a new body color – Cirrus Silver.

The reason for abandoning the convertible and coupe is a reduction in costs during the company’s active transition to electric vehicles. Mercedes plans to use the saved funds for the development and production of new all-electric models. As a replacement for the coupe and convertible, the manufacturer will offer the new SL Roadster and the AMG GT, which seems a fairly logical solution.

The latest S-Class Coupe and Convertible are based on the flagship Mercedes W222 released almost seven years ago. The brand will present a new generation sedan on September 2, 2020. The new car will be available with the same 12-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
