Turkey Has a National Car Manufacturer and It Already Launches Its First Electric SUV

The company is called TOGG and plans to launch five models over the next decade.

The importance of the moment when the national automaker appeared was underlined by the fact that the presentation of the first TOGG car was given by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan himself.

For seven decades, Turkey has been collecting cars for various car manufacturers, dreaming of its own brand. Its appearance was facilitated by the state policy on transport electrification in the country.

TOGG presented its first model — an electric SUV — which has not yet been given a name. The manufacturer designates it as the 2022 model, which indicates plans to bring the EV to the market in 2021. By the end of the decade, the Turkish brand expects to fill the line with four more models: a sedan, a hatchback, a compact minivan and a compact SUV.

The new car boasts «the largest wheelbase in the segment» (2800 mm), a 500-km drive range and a choice of powertrain: 200 hp and a rear-wheel drive transmission or 400 hp and an all-wheel drive transmission. In the first case, the car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, in the second — in 4.8 seconds.

In addition, the SUV is claimed to be charged in less than half an hour. It also features some digital assistants the L3 autonomous driving.
