New Audi SQ5: Redesign and Loss in Power

The updated crossover will cost €68,000 in Europe.

Following the update of the classic Q5, Audi has upgraded the SQ5 TDI. The engineers have redesigned the exterior and interior of the crossover in the style of the standard model and have also installed a more eco-friendly turbo diesel.

Externally, the SQ5 is not much different from the standard version of the crossover. The new SUV has received the same new bumpers, a redesigned radiator grille, as well as modified LED headlights. Matrix headlights are available for an additional fee. As in the case with the standard model, the updated SQ5 has got thin taillights made from organic light-emitting diodes.

The interior of the SQ5 is made of natural and eco-leather. The dashboard and center console also feature a matte aluminum finish. For a surcharge, interior details can be supplemented with carbon fiber inserts and Nappa leather. The main innovation is a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen. Besides, the engineers have removed an infotainment system control button from the central tunnel. You can now control it via the touch screen with audio feedback or voice commands.

However, the main change is located under the hood. The crossover has received an upgraded 3-liter turbo diesel with a compact electric compressor. Forged pistons have taken the place of aluminum ones. A fuel injection system with electromagnetic injectors and a piezoelectric sensor now provide a maximum pressure of 2,500 bars. The design changes allowed the modified unit to meet all the Euro 6 standards.

During the modernization, the turbo diesel engine has been decreased in power. Now, its power output is 341 hp instead of 347 hp. The unit still comes with a 8-speed automatic gearbox. The AWD SQ5 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

The updated Audi SQ5 TDI will be released in Europe in early 2021. The diesel crossover will cost at least €68,000 in Germany.
