A new batch of rumors about Lotus’ SUV has appeared on the Internet. According to Chinese media, production of the model, which will be named Lambda, will begin before the end of this year. The car will be based on the modular SPA platform, as that of the Volvo XC60, Volvo XC90, and Polestar 1.

Initially, it was assumed that the Lotus SUV will be comparable in size to the Porsche Macan (4,696×1,926×1,624 mm), but now we are speaking about the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. The Lambda will be 4.9 meters long, 2 meters wide and 1.6 meters high. The SUV will be based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, on which the Volvo XC90, XC60 and Polestar 1 are built.

An engine range of the new vehicle will be represented by turbo petrol V4s (perhaps, these are Volvo’s units from the VEA series (also referred to as Drive–E) with their own special settings), a PHEV hybrid system, as well as an all-electric powertrain. But there is no information about either of them.

The Lotus SUV will be assembled at the new factory of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (it owns Lotus since 2017) in Wuhan, China. The company, which is capable of producing 150,000 cars annually, is partially reserved for the British brand, and the amount of investment in its construction was $ 1.3 billion.

The SUV will be followed by two new models in 2023 and 2024. These are the Sigma and Alpha EVs, which will also be built at the factory in Wuhan.
