The New Mazda 6 May Become Rear-Wheel Drive

The significantly changed sedan will be produced at the end of 2022.

Rumor has it that Mazda will release a new sedan with the index “6” at the end of 2022. However, despite the fact that we have to wait for two more years, the first details about the new model have already been leaked.

Concerning the powertrain, Mazda intends to approach BMW’s concept of the car manufacturing process. More specifically, the car can be released with an RWD drivetrain and an L6 engine. There is frankly little information about the latter, but it is logical that it will be a new Skyactive-X unit paired with an electric powertrain. Lexus has already put its eye on it and is ready to equip the company’s new IS and RC with it.

As for the exterior, the new Mazda will resemble the Vision Coupe prototype, which debuted in Tokyo back in 2017. It is unknown how much the design of the Mazda 6 will resemble the concept but it will probably be a four-door coupe with a long hood, a streamlined body and a compact trunk. At the same time, it is likely that the new Mazda 6 will be released with two doors. Thus, the model will occupy a long-empty segment of the RX series. We have absolutely been longing for Mazda’s coupe, but if this is true, we will really miss a rotary engine.
