New SsangYong Rexton Unveiled

The design and specifications of the new flagship model are officially revealed.

SsangYong has introduced the new body-on-frame Rexton. The automaker refers the model to the fourth generation, but the interior and exterior improvements are spot-on. The design changes are reduced to a new transmission, power steering and boosted engine. The SsangYong Rexton will make its public debut on November 4.

The external improvements of the SsangYong Rexton are reduced to new bumpers and wheels, redesigned fully LED headlights, and an octagonal radiator grille with a large cross-section. The headlights are projective and the taillights have a T-shaped pattern.

SsangYong has added a fashionable fake exhaust system, has returned the old logo with three intertwined rings and has also expanded personalization options. From now on, you can order the Rexton Black with tinted headlights, dark chrome exterior trim and special 20-inch anthracite wheels with five double spokes. In profile, the model has not changed much because its stamped body elements are still the same.

Contrary to the assumptions of insiders, the engine range has not been expanded. The line-up has remained the same: a 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine and a 2.0-liter turbo petrol V4. The diesel unit is boosted up to 202 hp (+15 hp), and a 7-speed automatic gearbox is now replaced by an 8-speed automatic one. A 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine comes with a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

Another upgrade is the rejection of the hydraulic power steering in favor of the electric one. No other changes have been announced: the Rexton is still a body-on-frame SUV with rear-wheel drive, a hard-wired front axle and a downshift.

The interior has not been changed much: the Rexton has a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, a new four-spoke multi-steering wheel, a non-fixed transmission lever and wireless smartphone charging. It is claimed that there is a completely new infotainment system, although the touch screen has been reduced from 9.2 to 9 inches.

The interior features different shades of leather, but the combination of dark leather and suede is the prerogative of the special Black version. The second seat row has been adjusted: the backs can be laid out almost horizontally at an angle of up to 139 degrees.
