New Volkswagen Phideon With Glowing Logo

The design changes are minimal.

Volkswagen has updated the flagship Phideon for the Chinese market. The new model was shown at the Beijing Motor Show. The sedan has been sold in China for four years, but it is not very popular: only 14,000 cars were sold last year. The restyling will improve the position of the Phideon and attract new customers.

Changes in the exterior design are minimal: slightly upgraded headlights, slightly redesigned bumpers and radiator grille. The most noticeable innovation is a glowing logo. At the same time, the interior design loses to its closest competitors, such as the Audi A6: the Phideon does not have a digital cockpit or climate control touch buttons.

But the flagship boasts a rich set of additional equipment. The model has a mini-refrigerator (it is built into the back of the second row seats) and rear seats with air conditioning and massage functions.

You can buy the Phideon with an alternative 2.0-liter 224-hp turbo TSI engine in China. It comes with a seven-speed DSG and front-wheel drive. Previously, the model was available with a hybrid powertrain, but it was abandoned due to unpopularity.

The Phideon is manufactured at the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture near Shanghai. The model is not available in other countries.
