Nissan Postpones the Release of the Long-Awaited Model

A successor to the 370Z should be unveiled at the end of 2022, and its market debut should be expected only in 2023.

But Nissan is ready to start sales next year.

Nissan confirmed the release of the successor to the 12-year-old Nissan 370Z in May 2020. The new representative of the Z-line was supposed to be one of 12 new models, which the company will release in accordance with the corporate program by the end of 2021. According to the updated information, the Nissan 400Z (a proposed name) will appear on the market in 2023 after the premiere at the end of 2022.

The company's management does not comment on this information, but the press representatives have their own guesses and assumptions. AutoExpress has reported that the delay is due to financial planning. It is also worth considering the consequences of the former head Carlos Ghosn’s departure and the global problems associated with the coronavirus.

With this in mind, it would be logical to focus on launching more mass-market models than the 400Z, e.g. the Magnite, the Ariya and the X-Trail. Though, cars such as the Nissan 400Z are the building material for the company's image. They have a right to exist and to have their own fans.

At the same time, just over a month ago, Senior Vice President at Nissan Motor Co Ltd. Iván Espinosa said in his interview with CarAdvice that the 400Z would participate at expos in 2021. The sports car will be equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine from the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400. Externally, the 400Z will be similar to the original 1969 model.
