Bertone’s project based on the four-door Rapide was commissioned by a well-known car enthusiast from Britain, so the car has a steering wheel located on the right side.

Barry Weir, the customer and the first owner of this car, is known for having circumnavigated the Earth at the wheel of his 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 in 80 days in 2000. The Italian company Bertone built a car that was named the Aston Martin Jet 2+2 especially for him. The numbers indicate a version of the coupe car-body style, and the name is a reference to the 1960 Aston Martin Bertone Jet.

In addition to the fact that Jet 2+2 was created for a specific owner, it also has a symbolic meaning: it marks the centenary of the Aston Martin brand and 60 years of cooperation with Bertone. The Italian company planned to build 10 such cars, but the first car was also the last one.

The Rapide not only changed the body shape of the body but received more gloss trim with precious wood, glazed aluminum and two-tone leather. Inside, you can find a sign with the car name, Bertone's autograph and the name of the customer. It is reported that the project was carried out very quickly and lasted about three and a half months. The Jet has about 70% left from the original four-door coupe.

Earlier this year, Weir found a mock-up model and molds that were used to create the Aston Martin Bertone Jet 2+2 at an Italian auction. He managed to negotiate their withdrawal from the auction and return to the UK in order to protect the uniqueness of the car and prevent the appearance of copies. Now, Weir intends to put them in the same hands that the car itself will fall into.

The cost of the Aston Martin Bertone Jet 2+2 is unknown, but the owner noted that last year he had received three offers for £1.8 million (€2.13 million), but he refused all of them. By the way, the original 1960 Bertone Aston Martin Jet was sold at auction for $4.9 million in 2013.
