Peugeot Prepares an Electric Rival for the VW Golf R

Peugeot is preparing an electric hatchback for the launch of the next generation 308 model. Thus, the Volkswagen Golf R will have another rival.

In 2014, the launch of the 308 marked a change in the design approach within Peugeot. This hatchback was followed by the successful 3008, 5008, 208 and 2008 models. And now, six years after the launch, it has become known about the imminent release of a new variant of the 308 model.

Moreover, the hybrid Peugeot 308 PSE will also be presented in the line-up. The EMP2 platform, which allows connecting an electrified transmission, will help in designing of hybrid variants. If the standard 308 gets an electric motor, a 1.6-liter petrol engine and will be all-wheel drive, then another variant will be available for enthusiasts.

The new model will feature an electric motor that directs its power to the rear axle. Consequently, the new car will be all-wheel drive and produce about 300 hp in total. Other changes, such as an upgraded chassis, will be included in the package.

The Peugeot 308 is assigned the role of a pioneer who will show the new direction of the company's development, as it was six years ago. However, no one knows the exact launch date of the model yet. Most likely, this will happen in 2022 after the official premiere of the updated hatchback.
