Porsche Declassified Its First Electric Car

The German company Porsche presented the first electric car in the history of the brand: a powerful and very fast sedan Taycan.

The Porsche Taycan is built on a new proprietary PPE (Premium Platform Electric) designed specifically for electric powertrains. The sedan has not only become the first electric Porsche in history but also the first car in the world with an 800-volt onboard electrical system. The Taycan can be charged with either alternate current (11 kilowatts) or direct current (up to 270 kilowatts). Its drive range can be extended for 100 kilometers in 5 minutes through a fast charging terminal and its battery recharges up to 80% in 22 minutes.

The Germans decided to put all chips on the table and presented the Taycan in two most powerful configurations at once. They are called Turbo and Turbo S, no matter how strange these words might look on electric cars without any turbocharging. Less productive configurations will come to the market later on.

The company has promised to show the Taycan Cross Turismo in a year. The Taycan Turbo is fitted with a powertrain that produces 680 hp and the Turbo S produces 761hp. Both configurations are equipped with a 93.4 kwhr lithium-ion LG battery.

The Taycan Turbo accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and can drive 450 kilometers on a single charge. The Taycan Turbo S accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a drive range of 412 kilometers. The maximum speed is the same — 260 km/h. The Taycan is equipped with a three-chamber air suspension, adaptive shock absorbers, electromechanical stabilizers, an active aerodynamics system and a fully-controlled chassis.

Each axle of the Taycan is equipped with a synchronous electric motor on permanent magnets. The front electric motor weighs 71 kg in the Turbo and 76 kg in the Turbo S, while the rear electric motor weighs 170 kg.
