Skoda Announces Its First Electric SUV

Skoda has chosen the name of its first electric SUV that is clearly showed in the first teaser of the future model.

As ABOUTCARS became known, the car will be named the Skoda Enyaq. This name comes from the Irish «Enya», which means «source of life». «Enya», in turn, comes from the Irish Gaelic word «Eithne»: it symbolizes «essence», «spirit», or «principle». At the same time, the first letter «E» and the last letter «Q» also indicate that the model belongs to EVs and SUVs (the names of all Skoda SUVs end with «Q», e.g. the Kodaiq, the Karoq and the Kamiq).

'The source of life' symbolizes the beginning of a new era when the car enters electric mobility

says Skoda in its press release.

The Skoda Enyaq will be the company’s first car that will be built on the MEB platform developed by the VW Group: it is designed specifically for electric vehicles. The new model will be based on the Skoda Vision iV Concept presented last year: a compact coupe-like SUV with a 302-hp electric powertrain and all-wheel drive. A drive range of the show car is 500 km. Besides, it has the ability to quickly recharge (up to 80% in 30 minutes).

Skoda’s first electric SUV will be released in 2021, but its debut will take place this year. By the end of 2022, the Czech brand will launch a total of nine electrified models. It is expected that by 2025, 25% of the Skoda models sold will be electric vehicles.
