Subaru Abandons Its Coolest Model

Subaru has stopped accepting orders for its most extravagant model designed for real car enthusiasts.

The Subaru BRZ, as well as the similar Toyota GT86, debuted almost 9 years ago. The fact that manufacturers plan to stop producing models became clear after the announcement of the farewell special versions of the coupe. Subaru does not want to extend the life of the BRZ and considers the completion of its production.

It is worth noting that the coupe has always been assembled in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Based on the fact that Subaru’s sports car is produced on the same factory as the GT86, we will learn about the production completion of the latter very soon.

Previously, there were Internet rumors that both models would remain without successors. However, in the fall of 2019, it was officially confirmed that the development of new-generation cars had already being carried out jointly by the two companies. With a generation change, the sports cars will move to the Toyota TNGA platform and will get a new engine.

The second-generation Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 were due to be introduced this summer. However, the premiere was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. A new date for the double debut has not yet been announced. It is possible that the new coupes will be shown before the end of this year.
