Koenigsegg’s Supercars Were Not Allowed in the US Because of Unusual Side-View Mirrors

The Koenigsegg Gemera will be equipped with conventional side-view mirrors specifically for the US market.

Sweden-based Koenigsegg planned to show the Gemera at the Geneva International Motor Show. However, the online presentation of the model was no less impressive. The plug-in hybrid GT managed to surprise not only with its technical characteristics that arouse the envy of its competitors.

In fact, the Gemera entered a new sector of comfort GTs, offering a spacious four-seat cabin. Despite this, the Swedes will have to refine their super hybrid a little, though only for American buyers. The point is that according to transport safety standards, all cars in the United States must be equipped with conventional side-view mirrors. This is why the Koenigsegg Gemera will get the usual mirrors instead of advanced cameras, while the configuration for Europe will remain the same.

However, the company still hopes that by the time the Gemera goes on sale, the US government will allow cameras to be installed on cars, especially since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced such tests last year. Such cars have long been allowed in Europe and Japan.

The Koenigsegg Gemera is equipped with a 600-hp internal combustion engine and three electric motors. A total output of the hybrid powertrain is 1,700 hp and 3,500 Nm. A top speed exceeds 400 km/h. The Gemera can accelerate up to 300 km/h only on electric charge. A 0-100 km/h time is 1.9 seconds. A circulation of the new vehicle will be limited to 300 units. A price tag is approximately $1 million.
