The Suzuki Jimny to Get a Longer Variant with Additional Doors

India's Maruti Suzuki will release a five door version of the new generation Suzuki Jimny SUV for the domestic market.

The new generation Suzuki Jimny will get a five-door version with an enlarged wheelbase and a more spacious interior. The new modification will be released specifically for the Indian market. In other countries, the Jimny is available in a three-door body.

Technically, the extended version does not differ from the standard SUV. The five-door Jimny is also built on a ladder frame. It is equipped with beam axles, a plug-in AWD drivetrain, a downshift transfer gearbox, and a 1.5-liter 105-hp K15B petrol engine. The same engine is installed on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Ertiga and Vitara Brezza.

The production of the three-door Jimny will begin at the Maruti Suzuki plant in Hansalpur in June 2020, and the five-door variant is planned to be produced six months later. The standard SUV will be exported. The company will sell the extended version through its retail outlets.

The Suzuki Jimny SUV will disappear from the European market in 2021. The 1.5-liter engine installed on it does not meet the new European requirements for the polluting emission level. The car will be replaced by a specially developed commercial modification. It will still be the same Jimny but with a redesigned interior and no backseats. A full-fledged passenger version with a new engine will appear a little later.
