The line-up of compact sedans and hatchbacks under the ‘Chevrolet Aveo/Sonic’ name appeared on the American market almost 9 years ago and has never been upgraded since then. As it became known, the model was decided to be abandoned. The last representative of the line-up will leave the Orion factory in Michigan in October 2020.

The Chevrolet Sonic’s place will be taken by the Bolt EUV SUV, a counterpart of the Buick Velite 7 presented a few weeks ago for the Chinese market. Preparation for production of the new vehicle will begin immediately after the release of the last Chevrolet Aveo/Sonic.

This is one of the reasons for abandoning the model. Of course, low sales have also played a role. Demand for the model has fallen for the sixth year in a row. In 2019, sales of the Chevrolet Sonic were less than 14,000 cars. The best year for the model was 2014, when 93,000 units were sold.

The Chevrolet Bolt EV is assembled at the same factory in Michigan. It is worth noting that the upgraded Bolt is planned to be released before the end of this year. And the production electric SUV based on it will debut in the summer of 2021.
