The Ford Transit Has Received Mustang’s 10-Speed Automatic Transmission

From now on, Ford’s popular commercial model can be ordered with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which has already proven itself on a number of other models.

The decision to install a 10-speed automatic transmission on the commercial Ford Transit was dictated by the desire to make the car fuel-efficient. This is especially true for heavy models that work with high loads: chassis with vans, rapid response vehicles, as well as factory 15- and 18-seat minibuses.

A new gearbox is available for RWD models with GVW from 3500 to 4600 kg. It comes with a 2.0-liter 170-hp turbo diesel EcoBlue engine. The new transmission is also perfect for RVs based on the Transit, as well as for building vehicles, because it allows working with 2800-kg trailers.

It is worth noting that this automatic gearbox has adaptive switching, adjusting in real time to road conditions, load level and driving style. This allows selecting an optimal transmission for maximum fuel efficiency. According to the company, the Ford Transit with curb weight from 2380-2610 kg and a 10-speed automatic transmission consume an average of 6.2 liters (NEDC) and 9.8 liters (WLPT) per 100 km.

This 10-speed gearbox has already proved itself well with car models, such as the Ford Ranger, Ford F-150 and powerful Mustang sports car. The box was certainly calibrated for the Transit, in particular for working with the «start-stop» system.

Transit drivers will enjoy the smooth power delivery of our class-leading 10-speed automatic gearbox as much as operators will benefit from its durability and efficiency.

said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe.

As for the lighter, front-wheel drive versions of the Ford Transit, they are still available with the previous, 6-speed automatic transmission.
