The French Show an Electric Bike Powered by Ultracapacitors and Lithium-Ion Batteries

The motorbike is designed in a vintage style and has a spokeless rear wheel.

NAWA Technologies has presented an electric motorbike concept with a hybrid battery, which consists of conventional lithium-ion cells and next-generation ultracapacitors. The hybrid battery provides the bike with five times more power than its battery-powered counterparts do.

Inspired by the original café racers, the NAWA Racer is full of modern technologies at the same time. The motorbike has a nearly traditional shape but its body represents a monocoque, outlining only the «gas tank» and «engine». The NAWACap ultracapacitors, offering 0.1 kwhr, are installed instead of the gas tank in the upper part. They charge the lithium-ion battery pack. Besides, NAWACap brings major leaps in efficiency, allowing to reuse more than 80% of the energy captured from regenerative braking, while lithium-ion can only reuse up to 30%.

The NAWACap pack weighs 10 kilograms. Thanks to the carbon fiber frame and composite materials, the weight of the motorcycle is 150 kilograms. This is about a quarter less than that of modern electric bikes. The NAWA Racer is able to cover a distance of 150-290 km (highway/city) on a single charge, depending on the frequency of braking and recuperation. Thanks to fast charging technologies, the NAWACap pack recharges in just two minutes and the entire battery can be charged up to 80 percent in one hour from a home supply.

The electric motor is mounted on a spokeless rear wheel. It produces a power of 100 hp regardless of the battery level. Maximum performance and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds can be accomplished in a Race mode. There are also an Eco mode and a Normal one.
