The Most Powerful Crossover in the World to Become a Collector's Item

Production of the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat will last only 6 months.

During this time, the company will have time to collect less than 2,000 cars.

Presented at the beginning of the month, the 720-hp Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, the most powerful crossover in the world, will be able to claim the title of a collector's item. Due to the pandemic, the company had to phase out the production of the model beforehand.

Dodge Top Manager Timothy Kuniskis said in his interview with Muscle Cars & Trucks that the crossover would leave the pipeline in six months after the launch in early 2021. Approximately 2,000 cars will be assembled in 6 months. Everything will depend on the company’s production capacity and the demand, which can easily exceed the supply. Order acceptance will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Another reason for the phase-out was stricter emission controls. The 2022 Durango SRT Hellcat will not be equipped with such a powerful engine, as that of the latest model — we are talking about a 6.2-liter V8 Hellcat (720 hp / 875 Nm). Apparently, its place will be taken by a smaller unit or even a hybrid powertrain.

Along with the Durango, the co-platform Jeep Grand Cherokee will have to say goodbye to the unit. In 2023, the new Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye and Challenger SRT Super Stock will also lose the engine. Rumor has it that future muscle cars and a new yet unnamed Dodge crossover, as well as the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, will be built on the RWD Giorgio platform.
