The Segway S-Pod Is a 40 km/h Futuristic Chair

Perhaps, it’d better be called "the Throne".

American manufacturer of two-wheeled personal transporters Segway has presented a new product called the S-Pod in Las Vegas. It represents a large chair on wheels equipped with an electric engine. The S-Pod is able to drive at up to 40 km/h and travel up to 70 km on a single charge.

The vehicle’s appearance, according to the designers, is close to the mobile capsules from the movie “Jurassic Park”, although the S-Pod also resembles personal hover chairs from the cartoon “Wally” or Professor X’s wheel chair from “X-Men”.

The S-Pod uses Segway's traditional gyroscopic technology. However, unlike conventional Segways, the vehicle is controlled not by leaning but by a small handling knob located to the right of the seat. In addition to the already named characteristics of the S-Pod, it is known that the chair weighs 150 kg.

The Segway S-Pod presented at CES has the status of a pre-production concept. The final version of the new product should appear during this year. The vehicle is planned to be sold in 2021. The cost of the unusual transport has not yet been disclosed.
