The Toyota Highlander SUV Becomes a Hybrid in Europe

The new generation Toyota Highlander will be released in Europe at the beginning of 2021.

Toyota introduced the new generation Highlander for the North American market a few weeks ago. Now it is time to declassify the new product for European countries. The large SUV will join the line-up of the already available C-HR, RAV4 and Yaris Cross.

The «European» Highlander is built on the GA-K platform and looks almost identical to the version for the North American market. The overall length of the seven-seat SUV is 4966 mm and the wheelbase — 2850 mm. The volume of the luggage compartment is 658 liters and 1909 liters, when the second and third row seats are folded.

In Europe, the new Highlander will be offered only with a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which produces 247 hp. The ICE is supplemented by two electric motors (one on each axle) and a Ni-MH battery. The average fuel consumption is 6.6 liters per 100 km (WLTP).

The standard equipment of the SUV includes Toyota Safety Sense (TSS): Pre-collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, etc.

Prices for the new Toyota Highlander have not yet been announced.
