The Updated BMW 5 Series Is Officially Revealed

After a series of spy images that occasionally leaked on the Internet, BMW still officially reveals the updated BMW 5 Series.

The 5 Series has received an update in the middle of its lifecycle. Despite this fact, the sedan was significantly changed. This gives it the ability to compete with the redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and Genesis G80.

Compared to its predecessor, the updated sedan features redesigned LED Matrix headlights and taillights with new L-shaped inserts, an enlarged radiator grille, and new front and rear bumpers. The new equipment also includes new wheels and the M Sport brake system with blue or red calipers. The exhaust system now has trapezoidal muffler nozzles. Besides, the manufacturer has expanded the list of available body colors.

Following the exterior, the interior of the model has also changed. It has the latest multimedia system with a 10.25-inch screen and the BMW technology: iDrive 7, a new steering wheel with a different key arrangement, and adaptive climate control. The package of driver-assistance systems has also been expanded. It now includes lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and frontal collision warning with city collision mitigation. The interior trim is quite modest but made of high-quality materials.

Petrol units are still available. So, the 520i produces 184 hp, 530i — 249 hp, 540i -340 hp and M550i — 530 hp. Diesel variants of the 520d and 530d are also there; they produce 190 hp and 249 hp, respectively. All modifications are AWD and have an eight-speed automatic transmission. The main innovation is a new 48-volt mild hybrid system, which is equipped with a 540i and 530E engine. The add-on makes these versions more powerful and responsive, as well as slightly fuel efficient. The BMW 5 Series will be released in July 2020.
