Toyota Develops Protection Against Accidental Car Acceleration

The new feature will be available with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) this summer.

Toyota has analyzed all cases of unintentional car acceleration due to driver error in order to create an algorithm that distinguishes false actions from conscious ones when rapid acceleration is really necessary.

Acceleration Suppression uses a standard set of sensors that maintains work of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). This summer, Toyota plans to deliver an updated version of the TSS software, including this new feature.

The upgraded TSS system will include such new features as: Emergency Steering (evading pedestrians), Driver Emergency Stop (stopping the car when the driver's health worsens, enabling hazard warning lights and sound signals, calling help via HELPNET), Curve Speed Reduction (automatic deceleration before turning, which will work with ACC and lane keeping).
