Toyota Plans to Return the Body-On-Frame FJ Cruiser into Production

Toyota intends to expand its model range with a new body-on-frame SUV, which will become a successor to the FJ Cruiser and will compete with the Ford Bronco.

The new vehicle will be based on the TNGA-F platform and will receive the company’s latest off-road developments.

However, according to Toyota Chief Engineer Sheldon Brown, this SUV will not appear tomorrow or even the day after tomorrow. Its development is a long-term prospect, which will be implemented if the demand for such models in key world markets increases significantly.

Sheldon Brown notes that Toyota is focused on the release of more conventional full-size models for the time being, such as the 4Runner, Sequoia, Tundra and Tacoma. Moreover, the future plans can only be discussed after the company's financial situation is stable. The company has been severely affected after a long downtime and a decline in sales caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
