Toyota to Build a City of the Future with Driverless Vehicles

The project starts at Mont Fuji next year.

The city will be named Woven City. Researchers who will develop AI, autonomous systems and smart houses will live and work there. All these technologies will be implemented and tested by the residents of this city.

The city area will be only 0.71 square kilometers. Woven City will run on an autonomous power grid that will receive energy from the reaction of hydrogen with oxygen. Therefore, the by-product will be clean water. Solar panels will be used as additional sources of energy.

There will be no personal transport in the city – it will be possible to travel only by bicycles and scooters. In addition, driverless EVs will move around the city. The houses will be made of wood without the use of fasteners.

According to Toyota's plans, the city construction starts in 2021. However, there is no information on when Woven City will be put into operation.
