Volkswagen Has Prepared a Camping Version with a Tent for the Caddy

The new model has replaced the Caddy Beach.

Volkswagen has developed a camper based on the fifth-generation Caddy: the new model is called the California and will replace the outdated Caddy Beach in the line-up. The compact vehicle is equipped with an almost two-meter bed and a kitchenette. The kit also includes a modular tent system.

The Volkswagen Caddy California will be available in several versions: 4,501 and 4,853 mm long; with 75-hp or 122-hp diesel engines; front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Regardless of the modification, the camper features with a double bed size (1,980x1,070) with a comfortable mattress located above the luggage compartment directly under the panoramic roof.

The kitchen consists of several extendable elements: there is a gas stove with a windproof screen in the upper part, and there is a niche for storing cutlery under it. A modular tent system is attached to the rear end in a special way. It accommodates five people.

The equipment list includes a digital dashboard, a 10-inch infotainment system, and nineteen driver assistance systems, including Travel Assist. The short-wheelbase version of the Caddy California will be released in Europe by the end of 2020, and a long-wheelbase version — in 2021.

The Volkswagen Caddy changed generation in February 2020, and this update was the largest for the model in the last 16 years. The Caddy was transferred to the MQB platform, received a new exterior and interior design, increased in size, and had a drag coefficient reduced from 0.33 to 0.30.
