Volkswagen to Compete with Tesla: the ID.4. Surprised with Its Drive Range

The rear-wheel drive Volkswagen ID.4. will go on sale first. It will be followed by all-wheel drive configurations with two powertrains, one on each axle. The electric SUV will be available in Europe, China and the United States starting next year.

Note that the presented photos show the pre-production version of the new EV. According to the manufacturer's statements, the production car will look exactly the same.

Besides, Volkswagen also spoke about the new car’s drive range, which is 500 km. The fast charging system will allow quick replenishing of the battery pack. Thanks to it, the owner will be able to charge the ID.4. battery in half an hour from 4% to 80%.

The SUV is built on the MEB platform specially designed for EVs. Dimensions of the new car are the following: length — 4625 mm, width — 1891 mm, height — 1609 mm, wheelbase — 2773 mm. Volkswagen claims that the internal space of the ID.4. is comparable to the Tiguan Allspace.

The next new car in the manufacturer's line will be a coupe-like SUV — the ID.5. The Germans plan to bring more than 20 electric models to the market by 2025. The first EV built on the new platform was the ID.3.
