Volkswagen Plans to Produce 1.5 million EVs by 2025

Volkswagen has announced a goal of producing 1 million EVs by the end of 2023; the company expects to produce 1.5 million EVs by 2025.

The first among these cars should be the ID.3, introduced in September. This compact EV will first be released in Europe — it will be available in the basic configuration, which will cost less than $30.000, as well as in configurations with medium and large drive ranges.

According to Volkswagen, it has already received 37,000 pre-orders for the ID.3. However, the company noted that it would make the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB) platform, on which the ID.3 is built, available to other manufacturers for the EV promotion.

Obviously, it is worth noting that Volkswagen's plans shows only expected production volumes — not sales (ID.3 has not yet been released — it will not appear on the European roads until the summer of 2020). However, the company expects to increase the popularity of EVs in the coming years.
