The Volkswagen T-Roc to Get a GTE Hot Hybrid Version

The company will make a final decision on the market release of the Volkswagen T-Roc GTE SUV only if the electrified Tiguan is in demand.

The Volkswagen T-Roc already has a fairly wide model range, which includes the standard configuration, the electric T-Roc R and the two-door T-Roc Cabriolet. Despite this fact, the manufacturer intends to supplement its line-up with a high-performance hybrid version of the T-Roc GTE.

As is known, the T-Roc is based on the flexible MQB model platform, which may well Volkswagen to adapt the hybrid powertrain for the SUV. Therefore, if the German brand still decides to expand its line-up, there will be no barriers to this. Most likely, the T-Roc GTE will get the same engine as that of the new electric Golf. In particular, it will be a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired with an electric motor. A total output of the unit is 241 hp and 400 Nm. The drive range only on electricity is provided by a 13-kwhr battery.

However, if we look at this issue from the side of profitability, it is unlikely that this model will be in demand. After all, the company has the larger and more powerful Tiguan, which will get an electrified version. However, we have already seen it in action and Volkswagen will release the Tiguan to the market very soon.

It can be assumed that the German manufacturer will make a final decision regarding the T-Roc GTE only if there is demand for the electrified Tiguan. The company’s further strategy for hybridization of its line-up will also depend on this.
