Volkswagen Unveils the Interior of the ID.4 with Smart Lighting

The first deliveries will begin before the end of 2020.

Volkswagen has showed the interior of its first electric SUV, the ID. 4, which will debut before the end of September. The main feature of the interior will be a “smart” interior lighting with 30 colors to choose from.

The new model has received a gray-brown interior, large doorways, high-rise seats, and a trunk that can hold up to 543 liters of cargo with vertically positioned rear seats.

To preserve the feeling of free space, the front panel was designed in a minimalistic style. It has a «floating» infotainment system tablet and a digital dashboard, repeating those of the «Junior» ID.3. Among the differences from the co-platform SUV are curved inserts on the fascia and elongated air deflectors.

The equipment includes a panoramic roof, which will be available for an additional fee, as that of the ID. 3, and «smart» interior lighting with 30 colors to choose from. The backlight works in conjunction with the car's systems, giving special light signals: it can notify you of door locks and incoming calls and also advise you to change the lane to the correct one, using GPS.

A limited version called the ID.4 1ST Max1 will be available at the start of sales in Germany. It will receive special seats approved by German doctors. They have several power adjustment options and pneumatic lumbar supports with massage.

Information about the powertrain of the new model is still classified. It is expected that the SUV will be equipped with two electric engines, the total power output of which will be about 300 hp. The ID.4 can cover up to 500 km on a single charge.

In August, Volkswagen showed official images of the ID.4 exterior, which also borrowed many features from the ID.3 hatchback.
