Volvo has started accepting orders for the XC40 Recharge, its first electric SUV.

At the same time, prices for the new model in Sweden are announced.

The electric Volvo can be ordered “only in some European countries” (it is not specified in which ones). At the same time, its starting price is 699,000 Swedish kronor, which is approximately 66,100 euros.

And this is quite a lot, both for a compact, albeit electric SUV. Especially if you consider the fact that Volvo named an initial price of about 40,000-45,000 euros, but the car turned out to be significantly more expensive in the end (by more than 20,000 euros): for comparison, the flagship five-meter Volvo XC90 costs from 619,900 kronor (58,600 euros), and the difference with the petrol XC40 is even more surprising (by more than half!). Swedish dealerships ask for it about 294,900 kronor (27,900 euros).

However, Swedish customers are not deterred by this price: there is a boom in electric vehicles in Sweden (in 2019, their sales increased by 8.1%, which is the second growth rate in the world after Norway), so several thousand orders for the new XC40 Recharge were placed on the first day.

Production of the Volvo XC40 Recharge will begin in the second half of the year, and the first customers will receive their vehicles by the fall of 2020. By 2025, Volvo intends to bring to the market four new electric models, among which there will be a “green” version of the aforementioned XC90, as it became known just the other day.
